Mauricio Pochettino Among Five Candidates on Man Utd’s Ruben Amorim Replacement Shortlist

Pressure Mounts on Ruben Amorim as Manchester United Struggle

Manchester United are under pressure after Ruben Amorim oversaw the club’s worst start to a Premier League season in 33 years, winning just one of their first four league games in 2025-26.

Reports suggest that players are losing faith in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, with captain Bruno Fernandes unhappy about being asked to play a deeper role. After a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, Amorim remained defiant, saying:
“When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man.”

Potential Replacements

Manchester United have reportedly identified five candidates to replace Amorim if he is dismissed:

  • Mauricio Pochettino – USMNT manager
  • Gareth Southgate – Former England coach
  • Oliver Glasner – Crystal Palace manager
  • Marco Silva – Fulham manager
  • Andoni Iraola – Bournemouth coach

Sacking Amorim would come at a heavy cost, with the club liable to pay £12 million ($17m) if he is dismissed within the first year of his contract.

With only a few league matches left to turn things around, Amorim’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.
