Haaland Credits Fatherhood for Career-Best Form After Manchester City Winner

Erling Haaland says becoming a father has helped him reach the best form of his career, after scoring the decisive goal in Manchester City’s 1-0 victory over Brentford on Sunday. The Norwegian striker now has 18 goals in 11 games across club and country this season.

Haaland powered through Brentford’s defense before slotting a low shot past the goalkeeper to secure the early winner. His tally this season includes nine goals in seven Premier League matches, three in two Champions League games, and six in two appearances for Norway, highlighted by a five-goal haul against Moldova.

“I’ve never felt better than I do now,” Haaland said when asked about his current form. Becoming a father in December, he credited his son for helping him stay mentally focused. “You can be physically ready but you need to be mentally ready as well. Having a kid makes me even better because I disconnect more than ever,” he explained.

Haaland relished the manner of his goal, which saw him latch onto Josko Gvardiol’s lofted pass, shrug off Sepp van den Berg, round Nathan Collins, and slot home in the ninth minute. The physicality of Brentford’s defense early in the game only spurred him on. “He started pushing me and motivating me. All praise to him, he made me want to do that,” Haaland added.
