Cricket West Indies (CWI) has revealed its updated list of men’s and women’s international retainer contracts

Cricket West Indies (CWI) has revealed its updated list of men’s and women’s international retainer contracts for the 2025-26 season, with a few notable inclusions and exclusions. The contracts, effective from October 1, 2025, reflect a mix of current performance, long-term potential, and strategic planning for upcoming global tournaments.

Key Changes in Men’s Contracts

Three players have been added to the men’s 15-player retainer list:

  • Justin Greaves
  • Sherfane Rutherford
  • Jomel Warrican

Conversely, former Test captain Kraigg Brathwaite, wicketkeeper Joshua Da Silva, and all-rounder Kavem Hodge were not retained this season.

The core group remains intact, with stalwarts like Shai Hope, Alzarri Joseph, Shamar Joseph, Brandon King, Gudakesh Motie, and Jayden Seales continuing their contracts.

Starter and Academy Contracts

Developmental contracts were awarded to Jewel Andrew, Jediah Blades, and Johann Layne, while 15 men received academy contracts, aiming to strengthen the pipeline of emerging talent.

Women’s Contracts: Glasgow and Hector Join the Ranks

On the women’s side, Jannillea Glasgow and Shawnisha Hector have been added to the 13-player senior roster, while Shamilia Connell, Cherry Ann Fraser, Chedean Nation, and Rashada Williams were left out.

The team continues to feature experienced players such as Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor, Deandra Dottin, and Shemaine Campbelle, providing leadership and consistency.

Development Pathways

Starter contracts went to Jahzara Claxton and Realeanna Grimmond, with 14 academy players included to build depth for the future.

CWI Perspective on Selection

Miles Bascombe, CWI Director of Cricket, emphasized that contract decisions were guided by:

  • Current performance
  • Long-term potential
  • Alignment with strategies for major global tournaments

“We are focused on ensuring a pathway for West Indies cricket that secures both immediate success and sustainable growth,” Bascombe stated.

West Indies’ Recent Form

Both the men’s and women’s teams are eager to reassert their identity after inconsistent performances:

  • Men’s team:
    • Blank in Test series vs. Australia in July
    • Lost 2-1 T20I series to Nepal in September
    • Won ODI series vs. Pakistan in August but lost the T20Is
  • Women’s team:
    • Failed to qualify for the ongoing ODI World Cup
    • Beat South Africa in a T20I series in June

These contracts are seen as a step towards rebuilding confidence and competitiveness on the international stage.
