Mohammed Kudus is quickly establishing himself as Tottenham Hotspur’s most influential player this season. Since joining from West Ham for £55 million, the Ghanaian midfielder has been a bright spark in Spurs’ attacking setup.
First Goal Boosts Confidence
Kudus scored his first goal for Tottenham in a 2-1 win at Elland Road against Leeds, having already provided four Premier League assists. His decisive strike restored Spurs’ advantage after Noah Okafor had equalised for the hosts.
“It was about time, wasn’t it? We’ve got big expectations,” said manager Thomas Frank. “I’m so happy for Mo – he needed that goal. He’s been our best offensive player so far. You just see he looked a little bit more fluid.”
Kudus had earlier set up Mathys Tel for his first goal of the season, showcasing his vision and creativity in midfield.
Making an Immediate Impact
Former Manchester United and England striker Wayne Rooney praised Kudus’ start at Spurs, noting:
“He already had a few assists but was missing that goal and he’s got it now. He’s brought a different aspect to the team, both on and off the ball.”
Kudus confirmed to TNT Sports that scoring his first goal was a confidence boost:
“As an attacker, it boosts your confidence when you score. This is a step in the right direction.”
Spurs’ Best Summer Signing
Spurs invested £181 million in the summer transfer window, bringing in Xavi Simons, Mathys Tel, Kevin Danso, and Kudus. With James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski sidelined at times, Kudus’ creativity has been vital.
He has played almost every minute of Tottenham’s league campaign, creating 13 chances, ranking just behind Jack Grealish, Bruno Fernandes, and Anton Stach. Against Leeds, he contested 19 duels, winning 10, the highest on the pitch.
The Premier League’s Dribble King
Kudus’ dribbling stats highlight his dominance:
- Completed all six dribbles against Leeds, the best 100% rate by a Spurs player in a Premier League game since Tanguy Ndombele in March 2021.
- Attempted 57 dribbles this season, more than any other Premier League player.
- 30 successful dribbles, the highest in the league.
- Created 13 chances, behind only Grealish (17), Fernandes (17), and Stach (14).
- Five goal involvements (1 goal, 4 assists), with only Erling Haaland and Antoine Semenyo having more this season.
Alan Shearer added:
“Most parts of his game have been brilliant this season, other than putting the ball in the back of the net, but he’s off the mark now and that has to be a good sign. He was a real threat today and looks a really good addition for Spurs.”
Kudus’ agility, creativity, and dribbling ability make him a constant threat. As Tottenham look to challenge at the top of the table, Mohammed Kudus could be the player who drives them forward.
