Shanghai, China – Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard pulled off a stunning victory over fourth-ranked Taylor Fritz, winning 6-4, 7-5 to advance to the fourth round of the Shanghai Masters on Sunday.
Mpetshi Perricard, known for his powerful serve, recorded 12 aces compared to Fritz’s nine and broke his opponent once in each set to secure the win in one hour and 25 minutes. This marks his first tour-level victory against the American, setting up a last-16 clash with 10th-seeded Holger Rune.
“It feels great to beat a top player like Taylor. I just focused on my game and took my chances,” Mpetshi Perricard said after the match.
