Iga Swiatek Cruises into China Open Fourth Round as Carlos Alcaraz Books Tokyo Final Spot

Swiatek Advances After Osorio Retirement

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek continued her dominant form at the China Open, moving into the fourth round on Monday after Camila Osorio was forced to retire.

Swiatek blitzed through the opening set 6-0, showing her trademark precision and power, before Osorio pulled out early in the second set. The victory makes Swiatek the first player to notch 25 or more WTA-1000 wins in three consecutive seasons, underlining her remarkable consistency on tour.

“I’m sorry for Camila because she always gives her best,” Swiatek said. “But I felt I played a strong first set and really used my game to put pressure on her.”

Fresh off her Korea Open title in Seoul, the Wimbledon and four-time French Open champion will next face American Emma Navarro, who advanced after Lois Boisson retired while trailing.

Pegula Saves Match Points, Raducanu Falls Again

Elsewhere, Jessica Pegula staged an impressive fightback to defeat Emma Raducanu 3-6, 7-6 (9), 6-0. The American saved three match points in the second set before storming through the decider.

It marks the second time this month that Raducanu has squandered match points, having done so against Barbora Krejcikova in Seoul earlier in September. Pegula now improves her head-to-head against the Briton to 3-1.

Also moving forward were Mirra Andreeva, who ousted Jessica Bouzas Maneiro 6-4, 6-1, and Marta Kostyuk, who beat Aliaksandra Sasnovich 6-4, 6-2.

Sinner and De Minaur Set Beijing Clash

In the men’s ATP 500 event running alongside the women’s draw in Beijing, top seed Jannik Sinner eased into the semifinals with a 6-1, 7-5 win over Fabian Marozsan. The Italian will next meet Alex de Minaur, who progressed after Jakub Mensik retired injured while trailing 4-1.

Later in the day, Alexander Zverev and Daniil Medvedev were scheduled to face off in a highly anticipated quarterfinal.

Alcaraz Fights Back to Reach Tokyo Final

Meanwhile in Tokyo, world No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz battled past Casper Ruud 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 to secure a spot in the Japan Open final and record his career-best 66th win in a single season.

“I had a lot of chances in the first set, but it came down to details,” Alcaraz said. “I just tried to stay positive and raise my level.”

The Spaniard will face Taylor Fritz in Tuesday’s championship match. The second seed fired 13 aces in his 6-4, 6-3 semifinal victory over fellow American Jenson Brooksby. Fritz enters the final with confidence, having defeated Alcaraz just last week at the Laver Cup.
