India vs West Indies Test Series 2025: Squad Announcement Live Updates – Shubman Gill to Lead India at Home

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is all set to announce the Indian squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against West Indies, which begins on October 2 in Ahmedabad. BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the selection meeting will take place online on September 23 or 24, with chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar currently in the UAE for the Asia Cup 2025.

This series will be a special one for Shubman Gill, as it marks his first Test captaincy assignment at home. Gill had earlier led India to a hard-fought 2-2 draw in England, the opening series of the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship cycle.

West Indies Bring Back Experience for India Tour

The West Indies, ranked eighth in the ICC Test rankings, have recalled Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Alick Athanaze to strengthen their batting order. Left-arm spinner Khary Pierre, who impressed with 41 wickets in the domestic circuit, has earned his maiden Test call-up.

Head coach Daren Sammy explained the selections:

“The return of Tagenarine Chanderpaul is to stabilise our top order, while Athanaze adds quality against spin. Khary Pierre has been included as our second spinner, considering subcontinent conditions.”

Meanwhile, frontline spinner Gudakesh Motie has been rested to prepare for the busy white-ball schedule, including the T20 World Cup 2026.
