Lakers star praises Doncic’s dedication and improved conditioning
LeBron James has voiced his admiration for Luka Doncic’s remarkable body transformation during the offseason, highlighting the positive impact it will have on the Slovenian superstar’s energy, recovery, and career longevity.
Speaking on the Mind The Game podcast, James emphasized that while Doncic’s skill set and on-court production aren’t changing, his new physique will redefine how he handles the rigors of the NBA schedule.
“It’s not like Luka’s game is going to change. He’s still going to put up 30, 40, 15, 10, 12—those numbers aren’t going anywhere,” LeBron said. “But what will change is how he wakes up after three to four nights. Building his body like this is going to benefit his recovery, his energy… it’s something to be proud of.”
LeBron praised Doncic’s personal motivation, noting that the transformation was entirely for himself, not for external validation.
According to reports, Doncic has shed approximately 31 pounds (14 kg) ahead of his first full season with the Los Angeles Lakers, marking the most significant conditioning overhaul of his career. At 26 years old, the guard has previously faced scrutiny over his stamina and physical readiness, making this offseason a pivotal point for his development.
Last season, Doncic averaged 28.2 points, 8.2 rebounds, and 7.7 assists per game, shooting 46.8% from the field. Over his career, he has earned five All-Star selections, five All-NBA team honors, the 2024 scoring title, and was Rookie of the Year in 2019.
LeBron’s praise underscores how this physical evolution could help Doncic maintain elite performance over longer seasons, reducing wear-and-tear and potentially extending his peak years in the league.
