Pressure Mounts on Ruben Amorim as Manchester United Struggle
Manchester United are under pressure after Ruben Amorim oversaw the club’s worst start to a Premier League season in 33 years, winning just one of their first four league games in 2025-26.
Reports suggest that players are losing faith in Amorim’s 3-4-3 system, with captain Bruno Fernandes unhappy about being asked to play a deeper role. After a 3-0 defeat to Manchester City, Amorim remained defiant, saying:
“When I want to change my philosophy, I will change. If not, you have to change the man.”
Potential Replacements
Manchester United have reportedly identified five candidates to replace Amorim if he is dismissed:
- Mauricio Pochettino – USMNT manager
- Gareth Southgate – Former England coach
- Oliver Glasner – Crystal Palace manager
- Marco Silva – Fulham manager
- Andoni Iraola – Bournemouth coach
Sacking Amorim would come at a heavy cost, with the club liable to pay £12 million ($17m) if he is dismissed within the first year of his contract.
With only a few league matches left to turn things around, Amorim’s future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.
