Minnesota Timberwolves Sign Veteran Forward Alize Johnson Ahead of Training Camp

Minneapolis, MN – The Minnesota Timberwolves are adding veteran depth as they finalize preparations for training camp, signing 29-year-old forward Alize Johnson to a one-year deal, according to NBA insider Shams Charania.

Johnson, who last played in the NBA with the San Antonio Spurs during the 2022–23 season, has spent the past two years overseas with stints in South Korea, Puerto Rico, and Japan’s B.League. Now, he’s looking to make his NBA return.

Johnson’s NBA and G League Track Record

A second-round pick in the 2018 NBA Draft (50th overall, Indiana Pacers), Johnson has logged 76 NBA games with the Pacers, Nets, Bulls, Wizards, Pelicans, and Spurs. He holds career averages of 2.5 points and 3.0 rebounds per game while shooting 48.1% from the floor.

His most memorable moments came with the Brooklyn Nets in 2021, when he posted a 20-point, 21-rebound performance and another outing with 23 points and 15 rebounds.

Johnson has also been a standout in the G League, averaging 18.3 points, 13.1 rebounds, and 3.9 assists across nearly 100 games.

Timberwolves Training Camp Roster

With Johnson’s addition, the Timberwolves’ training camp roster now stands at 21 players. Alongside Johnson, Minnesota has also brought in Zyon Pullin and Jules Bernard on Exhibit 10 contracts.

  • Zyon Pullin (24): A guard/wing who played at UC Riverside and Florida, Pullin averaged 15 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 4.4 assists in the G League last season.
  • Jules Bernard (25): A 6’7” wing who spent time with the Washington Wizards in 2023–24, Bernard has been a steady scorer in the G League with averages of 17.2 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 3.0 assists.

Competition for a Roster Spot

Although Johnson brings experience, his path to making the Wolves’ final roster won’t be easy. Minnesota already has 14 players on guaranteed deals and three rookies – Joan Beringer, Rocco Zikarsky, and Leonard Miller – who the team is committed to developing.

Still, Johnson’s rebounding ability and energy could help him secure a role, either with the Wolves or their G League affiliate, the Iowa Wolves.

The Timberwolves will open training camp on Tuesday, following media day on Monday. Their first preseason game is set for next Saturday against the Denver Nuggets in San Diego.
