Barcelona, Spain: With the Spotify Camp Nou still under renovation, FC Barcelona are preparing to host their UEFA Champions League showdown with Paris Saint-Germain at the Estadi Olímpic Lluís Companys on 1 October.
Although Barça hope to reopen the Camp Nou by their La Liga fixture against Real Sociedad on 28 September, UEFA’s strict stadium requirements make it impossible to host PSG there just yet. The partially completed Camp Nou would only allow around 27,000 spectators, falling short of the competition’s standards that require additional stands to be open.
As a result, work has already started at Montjuïc. Crews began removing protective panels used for a Post Malone concert on 12 September, while Barça are reinstalling last season’s signage, reopening merchandise outlets, and preparing concession stands. Crucially, new turf—expected to arrive from Extremadura today—will be relaid to ensure the pitch is ready in time.
The October clash will also mark Luis Enrique’s return to Barcelona, this time in charge of PSG. If all goes to plan, the historic Montjuïc Stadium will once again be the stage for Europe’s elite competition, as Barça chase Champions League glory in their temporary home.
