Teenager Flora Wang makes her main draw debut as Europe’s top badminton stars gather in the Netherlands from October 1–5.

Dutch Open Returns With Excitement

The Yonex Dutch Open 2025 is set to light up the European badminton circuit this week, with the iconic Maaspoort in ’s-Hertogenbosch hosting the tournament from October 1 to 5. Known as one of the continent’s premier events, the competition brings together seasoned international stars and rising prospects looking to make their mark.

A Home Debut for Flora Wang

One of the biggest stories of this year’s edition is the debut of 16-year-old Dutch prodigy Flora Wang, who enters directly into the main draw. The teenager, already a standout on the junior circuit, now has the chance to test herself against senior opposition on home soil.

“I’m really excited to play in my own country but also a little bit nervous because probably there will be more people watching me than usual,” Wang admitted.

Balancing junior and senior tournaments has become part of her journey. “At the Belgian Junior, I feel more pressure to perform well, but at the Dutch Open it’s about gaining experience, building up points for next year, and slowly adjusting to the senior playing style I’ll need for my future career.”

Focus on Growth, Not Results

For Wang, a direct entry into the main draw has provided both a mental and physical boost. “It makes quite a difference. Mentally it’s more relaxing because you know you’re already in the main draw, and physically you also save energy for the tough matches against higher-level players.”

While not setting specific goals for this week, she knows where her focus lies. “I would like to play relaxed, enjoy the experience, and learn as much as possible. The week after, I will be in India for the World Junior Championships, and that’s where I would really like to perform well.”

European Heavyweights in Action

Alongside upcoming stars, the Dutch Open will also see some of Europe’s top names in action.
